The Chief and official religion of Costa
Rica is Roman Catholicism (80%).
Evangelicals are said to be 12%,
however the percentage of evangelicals that are not Pentecostal / Charismatic is only 5%. Another 8% is listed as ''Other" |

The population of 4 million is overwhelmingly Roman Catholic. The church is very
strong and has committed itself to build a loyal base of support in the last decade. One significant phenomenon among the evangelical church is that former Evangelicals outnumber active ones by far. The main reasons are the lack of trained leadership that has produced the church on the edge of cultist unbiblical practices and the lack of biblical understandings about shepherding.
The Central Valley, where a majority live, has many evangelical ministries. As you
travel into the other interior provinces, one finds many towns without a gospel witness. There is a great need for missionaries in these provinces. The first 'daughter' work is in the province of Guanacaste, with baptized believers. |
